The Djinn or Genies

A Genie, or Djinn, is a type of sprite who, if trapped or forced to, will grant wishes, usually three in number. They have immense magical power but use it sparingly and literally.

The mages say that the Djinn were a race of tall, pale-skinned giants in times so long ago that men had not yet thought of building houses or ploughing fields. The Djinn made the greater magic, they entwined spells into stones and rivers and objects. Their magical civilization was all-powerful and centered upon the city of Sartel-Oriell. Yet in the end it fell and they died out. A few of their sprites linger on in faerie, trapped in magical objects and waiting to be summoned to perform tasks for the lucky finder of the object.

When demanding wishes from a Genie it is wise to be very cautious for they are tricky and deceptive. They will interpret your wish exactly and literally and if they can do you some mischief in the process, they will. For example, if you ask a genie for a pile of gold, you may well get the gold, but be buried beneath it!
