| THE GREAT RIFT VALLEY |
|
A massive valley that cuts
right across Faerie in the North, from Long Fjord on the East coast to
Rathdale on the West. |
| THE MONASTERY OF ONG |
|
This
famous centre of learning is way beyond the mountains in the Great
Rift Valley. The central purpose of the monastery seems to be the
study of ancient sorcery and learning. Acolytes have the
opportunity to study magick of all forms in a safe and peaceful
place, advised and guided by men of great wisdom. Once a person
had entered the service of the monastery he is marked with a
secret tattoo that is evidence of the strict learning he will have
received. The sign of Ong is revered in most magical circles. Ong was, or is, the god of knowledge to his followers. This monastery is so large it is almost a town, filled with green-robed acolytes as well as lay merchants, traders, servants and so on. Perhaps the monastery should be called a university for it has Libraries, temples, auditoriums, and speaker’s grottos in the surrounding countryside where tutors talk to their followers in a calm and natural environment and so forth. There are faculties of Sorcery, Mechanics, Philosophy, Art and Poetry. Each faculty has a master or masters who teach their; scholars (fully versed in a subject but not having completely mastered it) who in turn teach their; Acolytes (or students) who in turn have apprentices who are really only young servants who hope to prove their ability and to be allowed to pursue the road to knowledge. Donning the green robe is the sign of a man who has dedicated his life to the search of knowledge. Masters have plain, unadorned green robes, scholars have a number of black stripes around the hem and cuffs and Acolytes have stripes and black stars all over their yellow robes. Apprentices are not allowed to wear the robe of knowledge. It is rather like a guild of knowledge. |

|
This
very fat and nasty goblin chieftain leads a tribe of blue-skinned
goblins known as Gobgob’s tribe. Their territory runs along the top of
the cliffs to the south of the Great Rift Valley. |
| GHASH VALE |
|
This
valley, hemmed in by cliffs on both sides and an offshoot of the Great
Rift, was the site of a famous battle where the hill men of Gudron beat
the goblins from Lucsnar. |
