THE ICKBURN ISLES

The Ickburn Isles are a nation of hill men who occupy a group of around nine islands to the north of Anguin. The main settlement is called Racurn. The islanders are very poor, only being able to scratch a meager living farming root crops, fishing and herding sheep on the steep hillsides of their islands.

The society is largely tribal with each island having it’s clan who nearly all live in one settlement on the coast. They are fierce, if primitive, fighters and good seafarers.

Each chieftain has a fortress and they are of unusual construction. On a prominent hill or mound overlooking their main settlement and harbour or landing place these towers are built. They are all round and perhaps one to two hundred feet across. The walls are of thick stone and slope inwards as they go up, atop these is a wooden walkway all around the building with murder holes facing down and window facing outwards. This is then roofed over with thatch.

RACURN

The main settlement and capital of the Ickburn Isles, Racurn is not really a town, more a barbarian village. It has a small wooden stockade and the chieftains’ tower on an earth mound that dominates the settlement. All of the buildings (except the tower) are of wooden construction.

BARONY OF LEAR

Lear is a barony near the kingdom of Anguin that lies to the north of Pernor. It is fairly windswept and sparsely populated. The main occupations of the people are fishing, peat-cutting and herding sheep and goats.

DUKEDOM OF PERNOR

This large island and Dukedom that is effectively part of the Kingdom of Anguin, the Duke holds court at Perse which is the largest city on the island and a goodly port.

PERSE

The capital and main port of the dukedom and island of Pernor, Perse is a bustling and important port. A large merchant fleet operates from here and there is a royal dockyard. This is a major centre for trade in the northern archipelago.

DUKEDOM OF FERNIA

A fairly large island and dukedom between Pernor and Anguin which owes allegiance to the King of Anguin. The principle town of Farn is a major port and shipbuilding centre. This is a quite rich and pleasant island. It is a favourite spot for hunting for the nobility of Anguin and there is a jousting tournament held here every summer.

FARN

A large town and port on Fernia in Anguin. Apart from some trade and merchant vessels this is an important shipbuilding centre. The harbour is lined with quays, dry docks, slipways and so on.
