DRAGON ISLAND

A small island to the north of Anguin, uninhabited by men and reputed to be the home of numerous dragons. These creatures are in fact lesser worms; they are wingless and multi-coloured. They look like huge lizards, being between ten and thirty feet long and possessing vicious teeth and claws. They are very dangerous but the elves sometimes tame them and use them as fabulous riding beasts.

KINGDOM OF ANGUIN

This is a large island and kingdom in the Northern Archiapelago. Apart from the main island of Anguin, a number of others islands owe allegiance and pay homage to the King. These include two dukedoms: Pernor and Fernia, and five Baronies: Amon, Dimmenor, Sunnor, The Far Isles and Lear. The duchy of Trise at one time gave allegiance to Anguin but now claims to be part of Athon. The capital of Anguin is Amlia, sometimes called the Royal City.

Society in Anguin is Feudal and Chivalric; the nobles tend to actually be noble and honourable. The peasants, farmers and townspeople are usually well fed and treated fairly. The aristocracy is made up of the Royal family, plus Dukes, Barons and Knights. The land is dotted with manor houses and small chateaus, oppressive and strong castles are rare because internal strife is almost unheard of here.

Being made up of many islands Anguin is first and foremost a seafaring nation. There is a large merchant class who trade in all types of goods. The islands are green and lush, although they tend to be hilly. The climate is temperate and mild and this means that food is plentiful and most people are contented and prosperous.

The army of Anguin is centered on the mounted Knight or Squire. These men are all equipped with chain-mail hauberks, conical helms, kite shields and they use long, straight swords and spears. There are also a good number of longbow men who wear leather jacks and carry a long dagger.

The navy is made up of Royal Ships; in peacetime these are used for patrolling the high seas, collecting taxes, delivering messages and envoys around the Northern Archiapelago etc. Sometimes in periods of peace, these ships are hired out to merchants for a fee. Attacking a royal ship or doing something suspicious in sight of one is dangerous. The strong contingent of armoured soldiers aboard is quick to arrest wrongdoers and their captain has many powers to judge criminals when he is the only representative of the King and his Law present. The Royal ships are recognizable by the large deep blue banner that always flies from the main mast.

Anguin uses the silver penny for most trade and it is worth twelve copper pennies. There are also half and quarter copper pennies. All of these coins have a ship stamped upon one side and the bust of the reigning monarch upon the other.
